The will of a champion
Stacey Savage’s fitness journey spanned 10 years and included numerous ups and downs. This year’s female BodyBlitz Grand Champion chats with Angela Tufvesson about finally achieving her goals.
Stacey Savage was a clear favourite for BodyBlitz Grand Champion 2010 from the outset. The judges were impressed with her motivation, attitude and results,
so it is no surprise to see her sit atop the winner’s podium.
Body image battles
Long before she ever set out to complete the BodyBlitz challenge, Stacey was battling a life-threatening weight problem.
“When I was in my 20s I didn’t have a weight problem,” she says. “I looked the way I do now. But then I got married, had kids and over the years ate and ate as a result of emotional stress. I really didn’t care about the way I looked.”
Stacey says the turning point came 10 years ago on a shopping trip to buy a new pair of pants, as she’d outgrown her size 22 clothes.
“I went to Kmart to buy a nice size 24 pair of shorts, if there is such a thing! I tried them on in the dressing room, and under the bright lights I could see everything that was bad about myself. That was the moment the penny dropped and I realised I had to do something about my weight.”
In the next 14 months Stacey lost a whopping 45kg. She says her success was the result of “a lot of blood, sweat and tears” and overcoming her emotional stress (continued...)
